A friend of mine who is overweight had told me that he wanted to try a new diet to reduce his weight. He says that he will eat only fruits for lunch everyday. His daily meal will consists of a light breakfast, a selection of fruits for lunch and a normal dinner. Normal dinner for him consists of chicken, fish, vegetables and soup. Due to the long hours of work, he has hardly time for exercise. So does eating fruits only during lunch time for purpose of weight loss work?
I think that eating fruits as a replacement meal may not work for the purpose of weight loss. My reason is because many fruits contains a high level of sugar content Even though some people may argue that the sugar found in fruits are natural sugar, it is still basically sugar. Common fruits like water melon, papayas, honey dew, durians, etc have a high level of sugar content. My method will be to have a vegetable soup and a small slices of fruits for lunch if I want to lose weight. Of course, I believe that it is important to exercise everyday for at least 3 times a week. In our quest to reduce weight, we should not go overboard with one particular type of food but to look at variety of food that can bring a wholesome benefit to our overall health.
Anyway, after one month of experiment with his new method of dieting, there is hardly any reduction in weight loss, even though he claimed that he is now more healthy. Perhaps it will take many more months before he can see progress in his weight loss program; but eating fruits does bring benefits to his health so long as it is done in moderation. I did advice him to eat more vegetables, mushrooms and nuts; and eat less of fried chicken and curry. One thing I am sure is that eating too much of chicken rice, fried chicken and curry does make us fat and put on more weight. Because it happen to me about a year, and my weight increase by 5 kg because of all these delicious food. Daily exercise has helped me tremendously to maintain my optimal weight and also strengthen my muscles and body. In fact, I have found that daily exercise had helped me to become more alert and less fatigue.
